What i consumed in May
6th of june 2024
how many: 5
hello antiamorous blog readers and happy june! the summer is finally here for reals, carrying horrible news for me specifically (28 day summer break. what the fuck...). ok now ,lets move from personal complaints and get to the actual topic of this blogpost.
WELCOME to my monthly reviews where i look back on all the media ive experienced within the last month, which is May!!
unsure if its any surprising, but we still only got movies. summer depression hit me hard and reading books have felt like such a chore so i've taken a little break from it, hopefully next month you'll be getting some book reviews :)!
for this month we've got 5 movies with these identities; Deliverance, Monkey Man, Rope, A Cure for Wellness and My Neighbor Totoro.
lets dive into the reviews!

Deliverance
directed by John Boorman

Deliverance is a 1972's thriller drama film about a group of guys who go on a canoeing trip, which ends up going horribly wrong.

I watched deliverance on the 6th day, alone in my room as expected :).
My experience with this movie was a little complicated. on one hand it was a terribly boring, but on the other hand it was one of the most "traumatizing" movies i've seen in a while.
Getting into this film, i hadn't heard much about it. all i knew that it will be a little scary canoe movie.
with that description i was expecting a film where a group of guys get into a scary nature situation like getting stranded somewhere etc, but the result went in a much different, unexpected direction. its like "a situation you wouldn't want to be in ever" taken to 1000%. many of layers of uncomfortableness in this movie, you could really feel the uncertainty and horrors of some situations.
Outside of the scary scenes, the film is quite boring like earlier mentioned, but it might just be a "me issue". idk, i didn't really "fuck with" this movie, but it definitely left a spot in my brain thats going to bother me for a while.

Monkey Man
directed by Dev Patel

Monkey Man is a 2024 revenge action film. idk what else to say..

I watched Monkey man on the 6th day with my dear friend. this was also the first 2024 released film i've watched (confetti falls).
I don't have many complaints, but i sure do have many good things to say.
im usually not the person to watch action films with fighting, but this one peaked my interested after seeing people on the internet talk about it with much positivity. Thank you people of the internet, i really liked this movie. even the story was a little basic, there wasn't even a second where i felt bored. i never knew that watching people fight could be this entertaining and fun.
oh ya THE VISUALS AND USAGE OF COLOR! if action doesn't interest you, atleast watch for the look of the film, idk if im being delusional but i loveeed the visuals, unexpectedly pretty and quite mindblowing. The coolest movie of 2024 for sure, no competition!

Rope
directed by Alfred Hitchcock

1948 film about two men who try to prove their ability to commit a perfect crime by getting themselves into a stupid situation right after murdering their former classmate.

I watched Rope on the 8th day, all alone right before school.
I got no strong opinions on this film, Was a great start to my day. it was suspenseful for sure. i thought i was too "uninterested" to care much, but at the end of the movie i was so stressed that i kept fighting to urge to skip forward so i wouldnt have to deal with the tension!!.
The fact that the film was made to look like it was shot on one take was pretty cool.. i didn't even realize it at first! very cool creative choices in this one.
liked it, not much else to say.

A Cure for Wellness
directed by Gore Verbinski

2016 Mystery horror film about a strange wellness center and its mysterious miracle treatments.

i watched A cure for wellness on the 11th day with a friend who've seen it before.
Oh god where do i even start.. this film is stupid as hell. keeps you interested, but in the end has no value or effect on you. it felt like a movie you watch only to watch it, not to experience or get anything from it. the story felt like something i would have written at age 14, funnily enough the plot is very close to a story i came up with around that age too..
like i mentioned before the film is interesting, but not enough where i would have got into the mystery properly. i did still keep watching till the end without much issue. the ending pissed me off though, what the fuck even was that..
the film does have some issues with "useless scenes", many parts didn't advance the plot at all and kept the runtime annoyingly long. i feel like the movie would have benefited from being a little shorter, maybe things would have worked better then.
thumbs down! boo tomato tomato. didn't suffer but didn't like. Won't watch again.

My Neighbor Totoro
directed by Hayao Miyazaki

Fun fantasy movie about two sisters who move to the countryside, they discover all kinds of cool things while living there.

I rewatched Totoro on the 28th day. one of my first ghibli films i've seen over a decade ago. It is impossible to say anything negative about this movie. its fun, its cute, its enjoyable.
made me feel little nostalgic and motivated. after finishing this movie i wanted to go outside (it was about 4am), but i had school that day. plans fell short.
its great, nothing else to say.
